Yerevan from 3211.7 meter height
The TV tower, constructed in Yerevan in 1956, which was 180 meter high, naturally, could not satisfy the demand of the rapidly growing television. Years later, a decision was made by the Moscow Telecommunication projection institute and its Yerevan branch to construct a new TV tower in accordance with the new demand and technical standards. The construction of the new tower took off in 1974 and lasted for 3.5 years. The concrete metal constructions of the tower were brought from Ukraine. The new 311 meter high tower was launched in 1978.
It happened so, that two towers were standing side by side on the Nork hill, the old one and the new one, however after six months the transfer of the equipment was over and the old tower was transported to Leninakan (Gyumri), where it works until today.
The new tower was not only equipped with the equipment from the old one, but also with new antennas: transmitting and receiving, metric and decimetric, ultra-short radio wavers, radio relay and radio telephone ones.
Depending on the mountainous or valley character of the area, the tower ensures stable broadcast of TV programs on the radius from 35 to 60 kilometers, however, those signals are transmitted over the entire country by means of dozens of retransmitting stations.
In the beginning only 1st, 2nd, 3d and 4th metric range communication lines were used, of which the 8th one was used to broadcast on the 190-198 mHz frequency the first channel of the Armenian television. In 1992 the private TV companies started to use the 5th decimetric communication line, on the 48th of which the H1 decimetric or H1 Yerevan channels were broadcasted from 2002. It shall be noted, that the metric diapason also covers almost the entire area if the country, while the decimetric one covers only Yerevan and adjacent areas.
